The self-contained MSE-HMD84 Low Temperature Digital Hot Metal Detector is
available with either air coolant chamber venting as air purge or
alternatively with a water coolant chamber and separate air purge.
Shown mounted on a supplied MSE-LH01 "L" Mounting Bracket.

General Description The MSE-HMD84 is a fully digital "All-in-One" Low Temperature Hot Metal Detector uniquely incorporating a bar display showing the % IR input signal relative to the pre-set threshold as well as programmable thresholds and response times via simple programming switch action. This and the universal connection format means it provides the user with one universal Detector that can be used throughout the mill. The MSE-HMD84 is specifically designed for applications requiring detection of low temperature hot steel, hot aluminum, hot metal, or hot products as low as 160°C (320°F).
The MSE-HMD84 Low Temperature
Digital Hot Metal Detector is
a robust sensor activated by the infra-red energy radiating from the hot
product. Impervious to water or steam it is built to withstand the
harshest of environments. The lens incorporates filtering that removes
the visible spectrum to minimize sensitivity to extraneous light. For
general tracking applications spot lenses are commonly the choice. For
applications where the bar bounces or there is strip to be detected, and
for precise detection is essential then the 0.5° x 25° FOV lens should be
utilized. |

Rear Bar Display The rear LED Bar Display of the MSE-HMD84 allows the user to clearly establish the amount of received IR both from the background metalwork and the bar being detected and thereby establishing the correct trip level required. This display also allows the user to align the detector from a low energy source such as a flashlight, which normally would be insufficient to switch the detector. Adjustment of both the threshold and the response time is also clearly defined by this bar display. When the low energy IR source is detected the single red LED powers on.
